Junior Sports Programme September 2007 Update
HOCKEY
Goalkeeper David Overton is a member of both Leadenham and Lincoln Hockey clubs. He was selected, following trials in Nottingham, for the England under 16’s squad for the home international tournament which was held in Cardiff in July 2007.
The Junior Sports Programme was able to assist in contributing towards his travelling costs.
GYMNASTICS
Spalding and District Gymnastics Club aims to encourage and develop the skills and confidence of all young children attending the club. The club has recently acquired a new and permanent home which involved the purchase of additional equipment together with a new sprung floor.
They are looking for assistance in the funding for the project. The Junior Sports Programme was able to assist, in association with J. Hodgson and Sons, with contributions towards new crash mats.
LACROSSE
Following a teacher’s course held at the Grove School in Newark, a new programme has now started with a family of schools.
Individual school coaching, with mini tournaments are to be held over the next six to eight weeks followed by a pop lacrosse tournament for all schools.
A pop lacrosse tournament for Nottinghamshire schools competing for the Hodgson Elkington Trophy is to be held on the 3 October 2007 at Bingham Leisure Centre, Bingham.
TENNIS
Bassingham Tennis Club
The junior tournament was held at the club on the 15th September, where the Junior Sports Programme assisted with purchase of trophies and junior equipment.
SWIMMING
Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club
Awards evening was held on the 8th September. The JSP assisted with the purchase of medals and trophies.
ABSEILING
The Hodgson Elkington abseiling day was held at Tattersall Castle on Saturday 15 September.
