Hykeham Tigers Football Club
By Mike Moore
The Junior Sports Programme assisted Hykeham Tigers with the provision of training balls for their U7 and U8 teams.
Hykeham Tigers football club were formed in November 2005 when 4 kids came along to a training session. Gradually the club grew and grew until we were able to enter an U9 team and U11 team into the Mid Lincs League for the 2006/2007 season.
Right from the beginning the club wanted to create opportunities for all kids to play regardless of ability and this philosophy would be the basis for the clubs success over the years leading up to the current date. In the 2007/2008 season, jumping from having 2 teams to having 8.
The club has had a great deal of success during the season as well as running a number of successful club events such as: the Christmas party which took place at the Epic Centre, the summer fun day, and for the first time the club ran their own tournament to which other teams were invited to take part and share in the family atmosphere of Hykeham Tigers.
We were awarded two prestigious awards at the end of the season. During the season we had earned the charter standard and at the end of the year the Lincolnshire FA awarded us 'charter standard club if the year'.
The Mid Lincs Youth League also gave Hykeham Tigers their club of the year award for excellent standards in administration, contribution towards the development of junior football and excellent sporting marks being awarded by other teams.
The 2008/2009 season kicked off with 12 teams and once again we hosted a number of succesful events as well as continuing to train our team of volunteers to high standards and all the time continuing with our 'sport for all' philosophy.
This year for the 2009/2010 season we will be entering 18 teams into the league including for the first time a girls team. We are also very close to achieving the next level of charter standard 'development' as we have just agreed a new development plan which will see us continue to grow providing sport for all. The club aims to achieve the top charter standard award within 3 years.
